Krug’scher Hof Estate
The Krug’scher Hof Estate has been family-owned since 1758 and it is located in the well-known Rhine-Hesse wine region, the land of 1000 hills and avenues. A composition of different soil types creates Riesling wines with an enormous variety of taste. The family-owned vineyards reach from Alzey to Bechtheim.
Alzey has very calcareous soils. The wines grown in this area, among which Keltic Terre Weißburgunder/Pinot Blanc, have a distinct minerality and a youthfully pure aroma. Poured into the glass they take a moment to develop their full aroma. These wines store well.
The wines of Gau-Köngernheimer Vogelsang show distinct presence and charming fruit. The vines in this area grow on ideal soil. Sandy clay is a warm soil which retains water.
Only two kilometres away, there is a mountain called Petersberg. It is covered with vines and from its top you have a fantastic view of the Rhine-Hesse hills. You will also find the ruins of a church from the 10th Century consecrated in the name of Petrus. The Gau-Odernheimer Herrgottspfad vineyard site is located on the South-Western slopes with partly very old vines, telling extraordinary stories. The wines have a lot of depth, a sublime structure and a unique diversity of aroma patterns, almost indescribable, of herbs, berries and stone fruit.
By the way, some of the last remaining yellow star tulips grow in Gau-Odernheim!
Bechtheim is a very famous wine village featuring a historic basilica of the 8th Century. The Bechtheimer Rosengarten is one of the finest and best-known vineyard sites in Rhine-Hesse. Elegant wines with appealing aromas of flowers are born here.
